Grand Opening of CranGrow, Wisconsin’s Newest Cranberry Processing Facility in Warrens

Cranberry Growers Cooperative (CranGrow) held a Grand Opening on Thursday, August 11th to celebrate the completion of its newly constructed state-of-the-art, processing facility in Warrens, Wisconsin. The new plant has created 50 jobs and will be used to process member fruit into a variety of cranberry products. The ribbon cutting was performed by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.

Second Largest Cranberry Cooperative in the World

The 30 family-owned farms that supply fruit to CranGrow vary in size from relatively small operations to marshes with over 150 acres. Together they form the second largest cranberry cooperative in the world, supplying cranberry products to customers in over 25 countries worldwide.

Jim Reed, Chief Executive Officer at CranGrow, said the project came in on time and on budget at slightly more than $20 million dollars. Reed added, “From the very beginning of this project it was our goal to build a processing facility that would be second to none. We sought out the latest technology and tailored the layout of the facility to maximize efficiencies and produce superior cranberry products.” These products include sliced and whole dried cranberries, cranberry juice concentrate, and single strength juice (not from concentrate).

Growing for the Future

CranGrow Chairman, Dr. Frederick Prehn says, “This event is more than just celebrating the completion of a building; it’s a celebration of independence and taking control of the means of production so growers can continue to sustainably produce cranberries.”

Dr. Prehn adds, “We are excited to unveil the first phase of our production facility, but this is just the beginning as we have designed the plant footprint to be expandable. CranGrow currently has 30 members, but that number is growing along with our customer base and sales. We now have the ability to vertically integrate our members’ fruit all the way through the supply chain from harvest, to cleaning, storage, production, and finally to our customers. This allows us to offer our customers reliable year-round supply, competitive pricing, and 100% traceability back to the grower.”
